Watering Your Lawn Does Not Have to be difficult or Confusing

Among the growth requirements that lawns require is water. Without water your grass could turn yellow, then brown and die. This is, obviously, not anything that an ardent gardener would want to see. When it comes to watering, it is advisable to give your lawn just the right amount of water. Over-watering and under-watering are not recommended. Instead, you should water your grass as you wait for the rains to turn up. What you will require to water effectively is a perfect landscape irrigation system.

Watering Your Lawn

Always have a watering plan

To maintain your lawn’s ability to properly absorb water and nutrients, create a watering plan for every season. Then ensure that you are disciplined enough to follow this same plan when each season is repeated. If you fail to be consistent at watering, your turf can become stunted because of being unable to soak up enough nutrients.

Begin to water your grass

This will depend mainly on the current season. During summer there is intense heat and humid weather conditions. As a result, your turf might need regular watering to survive the season. In other seasons, an inch of water every week will keep your grass lush and verdant.

Again, when summer comes, people will rush to water their turf because of fearing the effects of the hot sun. The truth, however, is that grass does not need to be watered until the first sign of stress is seen. For instance, if when stepped on the marks from the shoes are left behind, the grass is thirsty for the water. In addition, if some blades are turning brown, the grass is need of water.

No over-watering or under-watering

As aforementioned, your turf does not require more water than it can handle. The required amount of water is just the one that would soak up your grass, ensuring that some of it seeps down in the soil and grass roots. After you have watered your lawn deeply, give it time to use the water to nourish itself.

Overwatering might encourage growth of crab grass and weeds that would begin to compete with your lawn for fertilizer and water. Besides, bugs that affect grass are more lured to it when it is wet.  Having an automated watering system could solve the problem of having to determine the amount of water the grass has received.

The opposite of overwatering is under-watering and it means giving your grass a little amount of water than it deserves.

Water in the morning or late in the evening

You are probably interested in saving water. There is a nice way to do this— water in the morning or in the evening. Ensure that the sun is not yet up in the sky when you wake up to water you lawn and that it has set when you water in the evening. The idea is to allow the lawn to absorb as much water and nutrients as possible without succumbing to the sun’s heat. Again you can avoid DIY watering by installing a landscape watering system that works by itself with the help of a computerized controller. It can give your soil an inch of water in just one hour.

Water evenly

Watering your garden plants is not the same as watering your lawn. The latter covers a larger area and might be easily watered with a sprinkler system. There are many types of sprinkler irrigation systems yet you are required to buy the most convenient type for your needs. The automatic one is the best but it is more expensive to come up with.

The traditional overhead sprinkler does not conserve water and it is best replaced with the micro sprinkler jets that cover a smaller radius but spread water evenly. Talking to a garden watering company in your area could help you choose the best system.

Do not water when it is raining

When the rainfall season comes, let the lawn absorb rain water. It does not need to be watered after being rained on the entire night. If your place does not rain every day then you will have to water your grass in all those days that nature does not bring enough rainfall. So, in short, rainfall is not enough to cause relaxation on your part as doing so could ruin your turf.
